ABOUT US

We are a small group of seedsavers, based in Winchcombe Gloucestershire, who save and share seeds.

If you are interesting in joining us, please contact us using the button above.

We are part of a wider movement that is trying to encourage self sufficiency and save heritage varieties.

We have a plot at the Winchcombe Community Allotments, so you don't even need to have a garden to join us.

Why Save Seeds?

  • Free seeds!

  • It's fun and very satisfying.

  • Over time saving seeds from plants that grow well in your garden means that you get seeds better suited to you and your area.

  • The seeds are fresh - you don't really know how old seeds are when you buy them or how they have been stored.

  • Farmers and gardeners have done this for thousands of years. In the last forty years many of us have lost this skill and with it we have lost many varieties and therefore genetic diversity.

  • You aren't reliant on suppliers for your favourite seeds. Suppliers might stop selling your favourite seeds, perhaps because the crop has failed or maybe because it isn't commercial to sell them.

Why Join a Seed Saving Group?

  • Free seeds!

  • It's fun and very satisfying.

  • More varieties of seeds can be saved by a group than by one person alone.

  • When you save seeds, you often get more than you personally need, so it makes sense to share.

  • Learning from other group members.

  • Saving from more plants helps stop inbreeding.

  • We can share the costs.
